Yaser El-Waly on Making Every Day Count

Time Is One of Life's Greatest Blessings

For Yaser El-Waly, Perth, Australia is a place that he has been in for decades now. His religion still inspires him to live his days as such. In his fifties, he thinks that time is one of the most precious gifts that Allah gives to every individual. Contrary to other things like money or property that can be stored or replaced even if they run out, time cannot be restored once it elapses. Therefore, he advises people to make each day productive in their lives through spiritual improvement and good actions.

The years that he spent learning about Deen have made him believe that productivity in life cannot just be seen in terms of how occupied someone is but rather how well he/she utilizes his/her time.

Making Time for What Truly Matters

Yaser El-Waly is often thinking about how people tend to be occupied with all kinds of commitments but delay what really matters. Family talks, praying, education, and helping others are often put off with the thought that one will have an opportunity later.

For Yaser, having a balanced life starts with focusing on what is really important. It can be prayer, checking on one’s family, helping a neighbor, or even just remembering Allah. In other words, these are the small things that slowly but surely form one’s character. Instead of just spending the day and doing nothing, Yaser El-Waly advises to think if one’s day was spent closer to Allah and in one’s benefit.

Time Shared with Others

Even though Yaser El-Waly is living in Perth now, he still makes a difference by teaching, mentoring, and participating in charities. According to him, the best way of doing charity work is spending your time helping others. Listening to the one who needs encouragement, mentoring someone younger, or getting involved in some kind of activity can leave a mark which cannot be described in monetary terms.

In his family, he pays much attention to providing an opportunity for gathering more often. Eating together, having some meaningful discussions, and praying are good ways of building strong relations within a family.

A Life Filled with Purpose

Those who have come to know Yaser El-Waly recognize that his approach to his days reflects a sense of purpose as opposed to routine. In Yaser’s view, people lead significant lives through all of the little choices they make on a daily basis.

Each new dawn is another chance for Yaser to give glory to Allah through worship, service, and exemplary personal character. It is his view that through viewing time as a blessing rather than an absolute right, he is able to live a purpose-filled life here in Perth.
